As a Physical Scientist or Biologist within the Northeast Regional Office, some of your specific duties will include:
--Serving as the Regional expert on quality management and the lead for all Regional QMS activities. Working closely with science centers to devise quality management solutions to novel or developing science activities. Ensuring that QMS requirements developed by various organizational units are compliant with Bureau policy and appropriate for the science being conducted. Providing technical assistance to other regions, mission areas and science centers. --Coordinating and overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of QMS for all Regional science activities in compliance with USGS QMS. Planning and conducting training and assessments, advising science centers on timeliness of implementation and of significant deviations from policy, identifying causes for noncompliance and overseeing corrective actions. Conducting analyses to evaluate the effectiveness and compliance of QMS in the Region and reports major findings and trends. --Serving as principal QMS liaison to mission areas on behalf of the Region. Cultivating an understanding of the complexities inherent in applying mission area QMS requirements to ongoing science activities, articulating problems to mission area QMS staff, and negotiating effective solutions. --Serving as a technical advisor and expert on the Bureau QMS Managers Team for the development and implementation of Bureau-wide QMS policies and activities. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT, Biologist, GS-0401:
Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Biologist, all grade levels. A. Have successfully completed 4-years of college study leading to a bachelor s degree in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management,chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. B. Have successfully completed 24 semester hours in an accredited college or university in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management,chemistry, or related disciplines and have additional work experience and/or education comparable to the completion of a 4-year course of study in one of the disciplines identified above. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT, General Physical Science, GS- 1301:
Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Biologist, all grade levels. A:
Have a degree:
physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. B:
Have a Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. GS-13:
In addition to the basic education requirements, you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Examples of such experience may include:
planning, executing and reporting on original scientific studies or ongoing studies requiring a fresh approach to resolve new problems. The complexity of this work typically required extensive modification and adaptation of standard procedures, methods, and techniques, and the development of totally new methods and techniques to address novel or obscure problems for which guidelines or precedents were not substantially applicable. At this level, scientists have wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment to perform scientific work of marked difficulty and responsibility. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
