Supervisory Geologist

As a Supervisory Geologist within the Geology, Energy and Minerals Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
Serving as a full deputy to the Center Director and assists the Center Director in matters related to the oversight and execution of research projects and the management and supervision of senior scientists and project chiefs within the Center. Participates with the Center Director in the formulation of new science/research team directions and in their modification and evolution. Interacts with the Program Coordinators and other Center Directors to guide science planning as appropriate, to include participation in Program Council meetings to evaluate science portfolios. Oversees project management activities in the Center and evaluates physical science, with emphasis on examination of thoroughness and proper scientific evaluation. Serve as a senior Center reviewer/approver for professional publications such as maps, reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, and other scientific products to ensure technical adequacy and scientific integrity. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Geologist, all grade levels. A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in geology. In addition to the geology course work included in the degree, it must also have included or been supplemented by 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography. B. A combination of education and experience-course work as shown in A above (24 semester hours or the equivalent in geology plus 20 additional semester hours or the equivalent in any combination of courses as specified in A above), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in A above. In addition to the basic education requirement as stated above, applicants must have one year of appropriate professional experience in geology that is equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience performing and managing, or directing, science planning; applying physical science and/or geologic principles, theories, techniques and practices; creating or reviewing research publications in the area of earth science; using skill in oral and written communications and group interactions to address and manage complex, technical scientific issues; and managing or supervising professional research and/or technical services staff. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
